You say "Once it's on the page, that's it for better or worse. OK, you can tweak it till the cows come home, but that's more or less the story." Sorry, but I think that's just the beginning. Writing seems to me to be 80% editing. Once you've got something on paper you can get people to look at it and tell you what's wrong with it.
